About Pass On Your Skills (POYS)

The Pass on Your Skills initiative aims to raise awareness of the opportunities that are available for both technical and vocational practitioners to take on tutoring roles - and by doing so, pass on their skills to the workforce of the future.

Pass on Your Skills is also a way of ensuring that further education and staff working within further education and work based learning have the skills and expertise required to meet the needs of the sectors they serve. In turn, Pass on Your Skills will help the further education sector to fill key vacancies in areas where there may be a skills shortage.

So how does Pass on Your Skills work? It takes people initially trained and skilled in vocational areas, such as engineering or health and social care, then guides and mentors them as they become a part-time or full-time teacher, tutor or trainer in their vocational subject.

This process involves inviting eligible applicants to complete an introductory award called Preparing to Teach in the Lifelong Learning Sector (PTLLS). The PTLLS award provides the first step towards further qualifications that allow applicants to teach in the further education sector.
